HAMPTON --? Two weeks after a tornado ripped through Hampton, some residents are still putting their homes back together.

The tornado spawned a path about four miles wide, causing an estimated $4.3 million in damage.

Public works employees have collected most of the debris.? The city says crews picked up 784 truckloads of it.? Nearly 100 damaged traffic signs have been repaired.

At Amory's Seafood in downtown Hampton, it could be two weeks before things are back to normal. The tornado ripped off the roof. ? Normally there would be 30 to 50 people working on the dock processing seafood, but because of the damage, Meade Amory says only 10 to 15 of his employees are working.
?
"It cost us all.? It's cost the employees, it's cost the watermen, and it,s cost the packing people," Amory said.

For homes in some areas like Merrimac Shores, the necessary repairs are major.?

According to the city of Hampton, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management reports that the majority of damaged properties are insured.?

Myesha Weaver has a new roof on her house and now needs a new car.? Her SUV was under a tree that crashed ontop of it; however, the tree is from the vacant property next door to hers.

"Nobody has been living over there so I don't know what's going to happen," Weaver said.

Anyone with damage who does not have insurance is encouraged to call Hampton's emergency management office at 757-727-1208.? Staff will review their individual case to see if there is assistance can receive.
